DELL Interview Experience UVCE (1)

DELL Interview Experience - 1

CONTIBUTOR : Suhas J
STREAM : CSE Batch 2017

The recruitment process consisted of 3 rounds basically
1. Online Test (60 mins) :
All questions were MCQs
This test had 2 sections
a) General aptitude, Logical aptitude and English/Verbal aptitude constituted 30 questions out of 60.
> General aptitude had some time consuming questions. This section had questions on data interpretation and data analytics questions as well.
> The logical aptitude questions were also time consuming which had analytical puzzles and other logical questions.
>There were 5 English aptitude questions as far as I remember which had grammar and vocabulary questions.
b) Technical aptitude constituted 30 questions which had questions related to computer networks, data structures, pointers in C, output of the programs and there were two questions on microprocessor and one from microcontroller.
> This technical aptitude had lengthy programs for which we had to find the correct output and select one option.
* Manage your time properly(on an average 1 min/question).
2. Technical Interview :
There were 2 rounds of technical interview for most of them
a) Technical Interview 1: It basically was reserved for knowing about your project and what have you done in it.
> Questions on the projects were asked which were mentioned in the CV.
> Was asked about the DBMS project a lot. More of why questions were asked about the project.
> Know your project well and be confident while answering about your project.
> As it was a testing profile job we were asked about the testing methods we implemented in our project.
> Why do you think you are eligible for this profile was asked.
> Anything and everything in your resume would be seen in this round and questions can be asked. The technical skills which you would have mentioned would be checked.
This interview lasted for 25-30 mins.
b) Technical interview 2: It was based on testing your knowledge in the subject's and to test some coding and logical thinking skills.
> here we are asked on the subject's of interest mentioned in resume and we are asked 'which subjects are we interested in and the coding languages we are comfortable with'. The immediate question which follows this would be 'why do you like that particular subject'.
> So some of the questions on data structures, operating system and computer networks would be asked.
Operating system questions were stressed upon and some questions were like ' How can you test that the OS has booted properly '.
> 'Why do you prefer testing and what qualities do you think you have that a tester should have'. Giving some of your examples and experiences would help in this question. Do not lie in this question.
> we were asked to code couple of programs: i was asked a program on how to reverse singly linked list recursively and how to implement stack using linked list logic. Mention the data structures you are interested in and which you know if asked.
This lasted for 20-25 mins.
My technical interview was at a stretch as one single interview(45-50 mins) wherein I had 3 interviewers with one interviewer who was there all the time and the other 2 interviewers, one at time, swapped once.
Most of them had 2 separate interviews.
3. HR interview :
This lasted for 10 mins. This interview depends on what you tell in the  'Tell me about yourself' question.
Then the usual questions would follow.
> Do you wish to pursue your higher education, if so after how many years.
> Why is there a drop in percentage from +2 to engg was asked for me.
Few more points to be noted:
* Be confident, be honest.
* Give some practical answers if given a hypothetical question.
* Know the fundamentals better and even if you tell the logic of the program it is enough, they just expect how you are thinking when given a problem.
* It is totally alright to tell No if you don't know the answer of a question. Think (for say 15 secs) if you know the answer.
* have a smile on your face atleast at the beginning.
All the Best.
